So I get a call the other day from the editors informing me that they would like me to make a simple portrait of Nuggets power forward Kenyon Martin. After I wipe the sweat already starting to accumulate from the pressure I decided to make this easy on myself and my subjects. One light, through an umbrella. That's pretty much my only lighting "trick". Goal #1 for the new year is to teach myself some more lighting skills. Quite honestly I suck at it, but I am already working on a few things for the new year which will offer me more than my one light setup. As for the picture of Kenyon and his mom Lydia Moore, it was great to have a moment within a canned two minute situation. For all the photographers out there you know how much time the media relations people usually give a photographer. Fun times. I am excited to jump in with two feet on the lighting thing. Any suggestions and tips are always a bonus.

Let's get a 12-pack, some pizza and a couple hours in the man shed and we'll play with some lighting.

Nice frame though.

Let me know when the guerilla lighting session goes off. Sounds like fun.

Dup: Nice moment. As far as the light is concerned, I might add another touch of light behind and to camera left for separation on that side. Dial that accent light down to 1/64 or thereabouts. How many lights do you have at your disposal?
